About the teacher

Ghillan began her professional career in the film and television industry, having initially trained as a sound engineer.

She came across Pilates in 1998 whilst studying for her degree and it soon became an essential part of her life, helping her to overcome a herniated disc and chronic back pain. After many years of personal practice she decided to move away from the media industry and persue her passion for pilates.

Ghillan completed the Pilates Foundation Matwork training program with Rachel Rafiefar, a hugely experienced and highly respected Pilates teacher. This was a year long training course with over 450 hours of teaching time. The Pilates Foundation was established to maintain quality and excellence in Pilates practice and teaching.

Alongside her Pilates Foundation qualification she also holds a REPS Level 3 certificate in teaching Pilates, is a Member of the Independent Pilates Teachers Association) and also the Guild of Antenatal and Postnatal Exercise Instructors.

Since graduating she continues to further her professional practice by attending regular workshops and master classes on subjects including Antenatal and Postnatal Pilates and Osteoporosis and bone health. Alongside her Pilates teaching, she is currently training with the Nutricious Movement Institute to become a Restorative Exercise Specialist. This is a 2 year programe focusing on whole body health and natural movement.

Know for being a careful, thoughtful and attentive teacher. She has a genuine love of alignment and biomechanics. She also has a keen eye for detail and is a natural problem solver. She believes in empowering clients to be in control of their own bodies and in class she often provides a variety of level of exercise, encouraging people to challenge themselves appropriately.

While honoring Joseph Pilates origional principles, her teaching closely follows new developments in biomechanics and alignment. She includes many pre-pilates exercises and correctives alongside the origional repertoire. Whilst her teaching is detail oriented, she encourages clients to develop a kinesthetic awareness of their body and uses a mixture of visual and tactile cuing. She is able to succesfully adapt her teaching to suit her clients.

She feels passionately that as human beings we were designed to move. We communicate and express ourselves through movement. She loves seeing how Pilates helps people to connect with their bodies and miinds through breath and movement. How it builds strong foundations and gives people the confidence to embrace movement in everyday life. One of her favourite quotes from Joseph Pilates is:

"Physical Fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformily developed body with a sound mind, fully capable of naturally , easily and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure."
